Chinese domestic steel section prices have continued their slight uptrend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have remained unchanged compared to last week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,530/mt ($516/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,550/mt ($519/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,630/mt ($531/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the Chinese domestic steel section market is still weak. Support for prices from the upstream side remains strong. In addition, supply volumes have recently declined slightly due to production restrictions in certain areas, causing market inventory to decrease also. As for the week ahead, considering the traditional peak sales season in September and the fact that traders are mostly optimistic, it is believed that steel section prices in China may continue to move on a slight uptrend.
