During the week ending January 16, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have continued their decreasing trend, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, ferrous metal futures prices in China have moved on a decreasing trend, exerting a negative impact on domestic semi-finished steel prices. Meanwhile, demand for semi-finished steel has slackened due to the approach of the Chinese New Year holiday. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in China will edge down slightly in the coming week.
