During the week ending July 25, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have mostly decreased, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, inventories of semi-finished steel have been at relatively low levels, thereby providing support for semi-finished steel prices. On the other hand, domestic steelmakers’ profitability has declined to a certain extent lately, negatively affecting demand for semi-finished steel and resulting in downward pressure on prices. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
