Domestic longs prices in Bulgaria have increased quite significantly over the past month, mainly due to the limited supply volumes currently seen in the market. In addition, local buyers have intensified their restocking activities, following the EU quota extension announcement. As a result, the gap between rebar and wire rod prices has widened, although lower levels may be found in the retail market. “You might find rebar prices at around BGN 1,410/mt (€721/mt) CPT from stock, while even BGN 1,500/mt (€767/mt) CPT is in question for fresh production“ one source mentioned.
In the import segment, ex-Turkey rebar offers were available at $740/mt FOB last week for September shipment, while a few producers were even heard to be offering at $725/mt FOB to Bulgaria. According to sources, around 10,000 mt of ex-Turkey rebar were traded to Bulgaria at $730/mt FOB at the end of last week for September delivery. In addition, Turkish merchant bar export offers are reported at around €670/mt ($792/mt) CIF Bulgaria for September shipment, equal to around $770/mt FOB this week.
