The reference price for the export of rebar by Brazilian producers is currently $840/mt, FOB conditions for the CA-50 grade, for sales to South American countries, against $820/mt two weeks ago.
In May, Brazil exported 17,400 mt of rebar, while importing 33,600 mt of the product, against 21,100 mt and 21,800 mt in April, respectively.
In May, ArcelorMittal exported 12,100 mt of rebar at $775/mt to Bolivia and 1,000 mt at $800/mt to Paraguay, while Gerdau exported 3,400 mt at $496/mt to Jamaica and 900 mt at $714/mt to Paraguay, all FOB conditions.
The rebar imports of May were all from Turkey, at $480/mt, also FOB conditions, all destined to ports in the State of Santa Catarina, where authorities have exempted imports of steel products from the state tax ICMS.
In the Brazilian domestic market, rebar is offered by producers in medium to large volumes at BRL 6,406/mt ($1,276/mt), against BRL 6,519/mt two weeks ago, ex-works, full taxes except IPI, for the supply in the country’s Southeast and South regions. For the North and Northeastern regions, prices are reportedly BRL 90/mt higher, under the same conditions. The decline reflects exchange rate variations, as the price in USD is virtually unchanged.
