Sources close to SteelOrbis have reported that because current Chinese HRC prices have maintained their uptrend, global HDG prices are expected to continue moving upward in the coming days. As such, US-based trader sources say they expect to receive revised import HDG prices from offshore mills by mid-to-late this week.
In terms of the impact of Hurricane Harvey, damage to on-the-ground inventory is still being evaluated. Although some Houston-based service centers reported not having any damage, others have indicated they have endured some damage, but the loss “has not been catastrophic.” Service center updates are expected to become clearer by the end of this week. Damage to inventory at Houston-area ports and on yet-to-be-unloaded barges also remains unclear.
