In June 2018, three months after the Trump administration announced the Section 232 tariffs, the US imported 249,250 mt of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip from global sources. This year, however, license data from the US Department of Commerce indicates that imports appear to have fallen sharply, to 162,368 mt.
Yet now that US flats mills are in the process of rolling out their third domestic price increase in less than a month, if prices start to climb, interest in booking offshore may be renewed.
