US import HDG prices trend soft

The most commonly heard spot market prices for US import HDG are trending soft since our last report a week ago, although sources close to SteelOrbis have indicated that pricing for US import Galvalume has remained stable.

As expected, the recent downticks in Chinese HRC prices are attributed to the price softening within the US import HDG market.

Sources close to SteelOrbis have also indicated that the soft trend in US scrap prices that’s expected for the current month will allow US mills to be increasingly flexible with domestic pricing, which will push US spot market prices below current import prices for US import HDG and Galvalume coil.  As such, trader sources expect to see a falloff in booking activity until the market resets.
