Pricing volatility within the US domestic HDG market has forced offshore mills into lowering their prices, as many within the US are taking a wait-and-see approach to domestic prices before turning their sights offshore.
The primary driving force for the price reductions in import 0.012”x 40.875” G30 coil, outside of happenings within the domestic market, relate to Brazil. Brazilian mills have been extremely aggressive with their offer prices in the past eight months, since mills in that country are dealing with quotas, as opposed to the 25 percent Section 232 tariffs.
“Everyone is hungry for orders and the rest of the mills are chasing the Brazilian prices,” a trader source said.
Galvalume offers have also shifted downward, source note, adding that prices are still higher than what domestic mills are offering.
As with last week, year-over-year data with regard to how US HDG imports have been impacted is not available, as US government websites have been taken offline due to the government shutdown.
