SteelOrbis has learned that spot market pricing for US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume markets has remained stable since our last report a week ago. As with our previous report, it should be noted that Brazilian price points are significantly lower than offers from other countries because Brazil is not subject to the Section 232 tariff, just quotas.
In terms of current import tonnages, the US Department of Commerce’s steel import license data from December show 161,189 mt of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip import permits from global sources, compared to 177,894 mt (census data) in December 2018.
