Little, if anything has changed within the US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil markets since our last report a week ago, although sources close to SteelOrbis say they’re keeping close tabs on global iron ore pricing.
“The expectation is that prices could go up in the short term until supply and demand issues in the iron ore market gets sorted out,” a source said, adding that US HDG buyers are staying onshore when it comes to grades that are being produced domestically.
“Buyers are mostly interested in booking tons for stuff that’s harder to come by in the US, mostly because they don’t have any other choice, but even then, people are trying to be careful with averaging their inventory.”
