Prices for US import HDG and Galvalume coil have shifted upward in the past seven days. Trader sources say that while buyers have been open to booking orders for specialty grades, which are hard to come by in the US domestic market, they’re reluctant to book import 0.019x41.56525 Gr80/AZ55 from sources other than Mexico, due to closeness to US prices and long, months-out lead times.
Earlier today, US news outlets reported that farmers were pressing the Trump administration to end Section 232 tariffs for Mexico and Canada on aluminum and steel, since retaliatory tariffs on US exports, such as dairy products, were causing harm to industries unrelated to steel. Negotiations relating to the possible removal of Section 232 tariffs as part of the USMCA trade deal are ongoing.
