US import HDG coil prices have remained stable for the second week in a row, according to sources. Order activity and inquiries have remained largely steady, as buyers are reluctant to purchase specialty grades of HDG coil from domestic producers, out of concerns that domestic mills will cease making these products due lower profit margins. Although prices in the US HDG market have improved in the past several weeks, it’s believed that US domestic offers will start to erode again in Q4. As such, buyers still prefer to buy specialty grade coil from offshore suppliers.
As with the past two weeks, offshore mills are still wanting to get prices for Gr80 / AZ55 Galvalume closer to the $50 cwt. ($1,102/mt-$1,000/nt) ex-mill mark. Sources say that deals toward the lower end of the below stated range are “not as available as they were last week.”
