US import HDG coil prices stable, for now

Pricing for US import HDG coil from Mexico has remained stable week-over-week, but market sources say that current pricing stability could “go right out the window” after the Trump administration decides whether to allow Mexico to remain on the Section 232 exemption list.

Trump has been threatening to tie Mexican immigration control to any new deals on NAFTA. “Mexico, whose laws on immigration are very tough, must stop people from going through Mexico and into the U.S. We may make this a condition of the new NAFTA Agreement,” he said on Twitter earlier this month.

SteelOrbis sources say they’re “buckling up and fastening their seatbelts,” adding that doing business in the current trade environment is challenging, as pricing could change at a moment’s notice based on the whims of the White House.

Current pricing for US import 0.012”x40.875” G30 HDG coil from Mexico is listed in the chart below.
