Sources close to SteelOrbis have indicated that offshore offers for US import 0.012 G30 HDG coil aren’t sparking much interest from buyers, as US offers are priced better and have shorter lead times.

Current domestic prices for 0.012 G30 are trending at approximately $70 cwt. ($1,543/mt or $1,400/nt), FOB mill. Import offers are coming in at $4-$5 cwt. ($88-$110/mt or $80-$100/nt) above that, DDP loaded truck in US Gulf coast ports.

“Prices are still coming down and a lot of people are reluctant to take a gamble on imports because of the lead times,” sources note. “Although a lot of us think that domestic prices are starting to scratch the bottom, I don’t know if anyone thinks that this thing is going to bounce back up anytime soon. I think at some point the market is going to stabilize.  Are some people booking imports? Yes. Are there a ton of people booking imports? We’re not seeing that.”
