US HRC prices still trending sideways

US domestic HRC prices continue to trend in the range of $29.00-$29.50 cwt. ($639-$650/mt or $580-$590/nt) ex-mill, although some buyers have reported paying slightly less, and slightly more than the average range.

Sources close to SteelOrbis say that while mills strongly desire to push prices higher, demand has not supported higher price points. It’s also worth noting that September’s scrap forecast puts grades down by $10/gt ($10/mt) across the board, which may play a role in pricing as September progresses.
