The mid-October price increase for US HDG coil has come and gone without much fanfare, as sources close to SteelOrbis note that not only have prices failed to rise, they have continued to trend flexible.
The current average spot market price is unchanged, week-over-week, but deals below the range continue to be available. Texas-based service center sources have indicated that while they have been drawing down their inventory levels, they “can still wait a bit longer before they need to resume buying.”
As such, it’s believed that many buyers will continue to “wait and see” with regard to market pricing and will hold off on making any large purchasing decisions until they are confident the market has bottomed.
