The most commonly heard spot price transaction range for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil has stabilized in the past week, after a $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) price dip in base-price HDG coil seen one week prior.
The stable pricing comes despite last week’s announcement by ArcelorMittal USA that they would be raising prices on HDG coil by a minimum of $1.50 cwt. ($33/mt or $30/nt), ex-mill. Other flats mills did not announce similar increases.
Some SteelOrbis sources question whether the price increase announcement was more about the mill’s desire to keep prices stable as opposed to actually pushing them up, especially in light of soft global zinc prices.
