The most commonly heard spot market price transaction range for US domestic HDG coil has continued to erode since our last report a week ago, with sources close to SteelOrbis now indicating that for some buyers, prices have plunged by as much as $3.00 cwt. ($66/mt or $60/nt) from our previously reported range a week ago.
One source said that while he had heard that the $40 cwt. ($882/mt or $800/nt) ex-mill price level was out there, he hadn’t personally seen it. “I haven’t personally spoken with anyone who is buying at that number,” the source said, adding that he was not surprised that SteelOrbis had spoken with other buyers who had secured orders at that price.
Buyers say they’re still reluctant to book significant tonnage from domestic mills out of concerns that prices will remain soft in the upcoming weeks.
