Spot market prices for US domestic HDG and Galvalume coil have continued to erode since our last report a week ago. Sources close to SteelOrbis have indicated that while base price HDG coil is down by approximately $2.00 cwt. the average spot market price for Galvalume coil is a bit harder to pinpoint. “There’s a lot of deal making in the market and there’s a lot of ways people can get creative when quoting extras,” a source said.
The continued downtrend for coated steel products is linked to soft demand and lower scrap prices. Whether flats mills will try for an increase to prevent the market from slipping further has yet to be known.
