US HDG prices firm slightly

Spot market prices for US domestic HDG and Galvalume coil have firmed by $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) since our last report a week ago.

Lead times, sources note, are trending between 7-8 weeks, adding that coated steel is currently the strongest flat rolled steel product.

And while some sources believe that the market may have reached its peak, and is likely to remain flat until prices start to soften during the summer, others think that prices may tick up a bit more before the market levels off.

As with last week, buyers are being cautious with order placement and are reluctant to book tons beyond what’s immediately needed.

Current US HDG spot market prices are listed in the chart below.

US domestic HDG base price $41.50-$43.50 $915-$959 $830-$870 ex-mill up $0.50 cwt.
