Last week, US domestic flat rolled steel mills announced they would be raising prices on all US domestic flat rolled steel products by $1.50 cwt. ($33/mt or $30/nt), effective with all new orders.
The announcement, which had been rumored would be sent out to customers before the Thanksgiving holiday, did not come as a surprise, sources say. However, many feel the price increase was premature, due to short lead times and current market demand, which is weaker-than-desired due to year-end factors.
At current, spot market prices are unchanged since our last report a week ago, as many within the US domestic steel industry have taken the week off in advance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
