US HDG market faces additional pressure after scrap prices settle downward

Last week, SteelOrbis reported that US domestic scrap prices had settled at approximately $30/gt below May's settled prices, which has placed further downward pressure on the US HDG market. This week’s prices have softened by an additional $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) from levels seen a week ago.

“This is just the reality of the market right now,” a source said. “At some point, someone at the mills is going to need to say ‘no.’ I think that’s the only thing that will stop this.”
