Spot market prices for US domestic HDG and Galvalume coil have inched up slightly since our last report a week ago, and today, some buyers report getting quotes for spot tons “at slightly above $110 cwt. ($2,425/mt or $2,200/nt), FOB mill.
“Some people have said they think that the market is about to crest, but I tend to disagree with that,” a Midwest-based source said. “Inventories are thin, lead times are long, and mills have all of the leverage right now.”
This week’s prices are up substantially from the same reporting period last year, when base price HDG coil spot tons were being sold at $38-$40 cwt. ($838-$882/mt or $760-$880/nt), FOB mill.
Prices are also up markedly since the first week of January, when base price HDG coil spot tons were being sold at $62-$63 cwt. ($1,367-$1,389/mt or $1,240-$1,260/nt), FOB mill.
