US domestic HDG and Galvalume coil prices are still “mostly stable” since our last report a week ago. Sources close to SteelOrbis, however, have said that a growing number of transactions are taking place toward the bottom end of this range. This is a slight contrast to last week, when the bulk of spot market transactions were taking place toward the top of the below-stated range.
As such, the average price points for both products continue to be heard at $55-$57 cwt. ($1,213-$1,257/mt or $1,100-$1,140/nt), FOB mill.
Lead times are also still steady and continue to hold at 6-7 weeks, depending on the mill of origin. Discounts are still said to be available based on volume.
Sources say that they still see the US steel market as being “unpredictable and volatile,” and that they’re reluctant to build inventory until they have a clearer sense of where the market is heading.
