The most commonly heard spot price transaction range for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil has widened by $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on the top end since our last report a week ago, which brings the current average spot market price transaction range to $41.50-$43.50 cwt. ($915-$959/mt or $830-$870/nt), ex-mill.
The uptick comes two weeks after US domestic flat rolled steel mills announced they would be raising prices by $1.50 cwt. ($33/mt or $30/nt), effective immediately.
Sources close to SteelOrbis report that the current average ex-mill lead times are trending between six and eight weeks.
Current pricing is a welcome turnaround from 2016. In late-March 2016, spot market prices for base-price HDG coil were trending at $28.00-$30.00 cwt. ($617-$661/mt or $560-$600/nt).
