Domestic coated steel buyers in Turkey have remained generally cautious, trying to gain a clearer picture of developments in the raw materials and hot rolled coil (HRC) segments.
However, some local re-rollers have collected some orders, having reduced their prices to $1,300-1,315/mt ex-works base for galvanized coils since last week. “We have used the China tax news, decreased prices and got orders, and later on increased prices to the previous levels. But the general expectation is downwards,” a producer told SteelOrbis. Overall, considering these fluctuations, local coated steel prices have remained relatively stable over the past week, though the higher end of the range is hardly workable, why $10/mt discounts are possible on the lower end.
"Demand is traditionally low and we don't expect to see a recovery until September. Declines in scrap prices have also affected the market negatively. Buyers want to wait for a clearer market outlook, but sellers do not want to give any discounts at the moment because of strong hot rolled coil prices in the country," a producer told SteelOrbis.
Most of the local mills are offering for September-October deliveries, while some still have some volumes for August.
