Turkey’s coated steel prices, namely for hot dip galvanized (HDG) and pre-painted galvanized coils (PPGI), have continued to go down this week. The key reason is the subdued domestic demand and slow export activity, coupled with some negative sentiment in the feedstock segment. Still, on the cold-rolled coil (CRC) side, there is more resistance shown by re-rollers.
Currently, HDG base prices in Turkey are mostly standing at $1,190-1,220/mt ex-works mainly for January deliveries, down $20/mt over the past week. Some mills, according to sources, are more aggressive at $1,155/mt ex-works, but for end-of-December deliveries. A similar situation exists in the PPGI segment, where most suppliers decreased their prices by $10-20/mt to $1,280-1,320/mt ex-works, while some are reportedly ready to deal at as low as $1,250/mt ex-works.
Turkish tin plate prices are now standing at $1,570-1,580/mt ex-works base levels, but some limited discounts are considered applicable.
In the CRC market, there is some resistance from re-rollers to decrease prices too much as availability is still a bit tight. Most mills are at $1,050-1,090/mt ex-works still, though some lower levels have been also discussed in the market for some specific orders.
