The local Turkish coated steel market remains rather silent in terms of business activity, with demand still being quite low. Neither buyers or sellers want to rush trade taking into account the rumours regarding China adjusting its tax rebates and implementing export taxes for certain products, although no official announcement has been made so far.
Some coated steel producers in Turkey have decreased their prices over the past week, while some have stopped offering at the moment, trying to decide on their new price levels. "Producers do not want to hurry to sell their materials for September and October because, if the rumors about the additional export taxes for Chinese materials are true, they know they can sell their production at better prices. Also, there is a lot of pressure on prices in the market at the moment. Instead of further price decreases, they want to wait a little bit," a producer told SteelOrbis.
On the other hand, Turkish buyers are insisting on discounts since they do not expect any sudden recovery in demand because of the weakness of the lira and the unclear economic situation in the country.
On the export side, demand is stable and buyers are still interested in Turkish coated steel, but they are also exerting pressure on prices since they have heard of the discounts provided for the local market.
