Previous pricing disparities between US import HDG and Galvalume coil and US domestic HDG and Galvalume coil seem to have resolved this week, according to sources.
In the past several weeks, interest in booking offshore has been muted due to higher offshore prices; but now that the US market seems to have bottomed, with many US buyers thinking that prices will firm in early 2018, trader sources say that offshore bookings have resumed.
“Interest is picking back up and we expect we’ll see even more interest if the domestic mills announce another price increase this month,” a trader source said.
In terms of current import arrivals, the most recent data from the US Department of Commerce shows that for the month of September, the US imported 245,261 mt (census data) of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip from global sources, which is nearly on par with levels seen in Sept. 2016, when the US imported 242,340 mt.
