Tinplate prices under pressure in Turkey due to low end-user demand

Domestic tinplate prices in Turkey have failed to reach the initial levels targeted by the producers. The main reasons are low end-user demand and high stocks in the market. In addition, the recent downturns in hot rolled and cold rolled prices have also influenced the mood in the coated steel markets.

According to sources, the current workable level for 0.3 mm TS275 2.8g/2.8m2 tinplate is at $1,580-1,600/mt ex-works. Around 20,000 mt of September production tinplate have been booked in Turkey since last week within this range. Currently, one of the producers is getting ready to start offering for October. Still, the price range fixed in deals is lower than the initial $1,600-1,630/mt ex-works targeted. “Tinplate demand is low and customers find prices high. Also, they have some stocks for safety,” a source told SteelOrbis.
