Current pricing for US import HDG coil remains uncertain, as many offshore sources are trying to petition for Section 232 tariff exemptions. Today, the UAE announced they would be seeking an exemption from US tariffs; the EU has indicated that European countries are also in the process of negotiating with the White House.
“There’s a lot that’s up in the air,” a source said. “If nothing changes, the early March pricing will probably be up by 25 percent.”
Another source feels the Section 232 tariffs could cause problems throughout the globe. “This is likely to spread globally and it’s going to screw up the market everywhere,” he said.
As with last week, the most recently heard US import HDG pricing is listed in the chart below, but this pricing was announced prior to Section 232 tariffs. It’s believed that when mills resume making firm offers, the below stated pricing will be 25 percent higher.
