Mexican mills can “name their price” for HDG import offers to the US

Pricing for US import 0.012”x40.875” G30 HDG coil from Mexico is priced at a premium, sources say, adding that Mexican mills can essentially “name their own price” because of two key factors—US mills are not that interested in making offers, and lead times out of Mexico are far more favorable than those from mills overseas.

“A lot of people think the market may be running out of steam, and that prices could correct, so buyers aren’t exactly lining up to book orders that won’t arrive for a few months,” a source said.

Another buyer said that Mexican mills are enjoying taking advantage of current US market conditions “while they can. The Mexican mills are loving this, because they’re able to sell at a premium.”
