Mainstream ex-China steel plate offer prices from mills have been heard at $935-945/mt FOB for November shipment as of today, Monday, September 6, moving sideways on average compared to August 30. The reference deal prices have been heard at not above $920/mt FOB to South America and Southeast Asia, down from $920-925/mt FOB a week ago. Thin demand has been still putting pressure on prices.
During the given week, domestic steel plate prices have risen slightly amid rising HRC futures prices and improved sentiments among market players. However, downstream users have been reluctant to build up stocks. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move up in the coming week.
Average Q235 20 mm steel plate spot prices in China have gained RMB 46/mt ($7.1/mt) week on week to RMB 5,666/mt ($878/mt) ex-warehouse, according to SteelOrbis’ information.
As of September 6, HRC futures at the Shanghai Futures Exchange are standing at RMB 5,822/mt ($902/mt), increasing by RMB 185/mt ($28.7/mt) or 3.3 percent since August 30.
