Mainstream ex-China steel plate offer prices from mills have been heard at $910-940/mt FOB for November shipment as of today, Monday, September 27, moving sideways on average compared to that recorded on September 13.
The reference deal prices have been heard at $910-920/mt FOB to South America and Southeast Asia, slightly higher than $910/mt FOB reported last week. Mills have not been ready to give lower prices for now, ahead of the holidays in early October.
During the given week, HRC futures prices have moved down, exerting a negative impact on steel plate prices. Demand for steel plate in the local market has been moderate, while downstream users have mostly held a wait-and-see stance towards prospect for the future market, though some buyers may build up stock ahead of the long National Day holiday (October 1-7). It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely fluctuate within a limited range in the coming week.
Average Q235 20 mm steel plate spot prices in China have lost RMB 13/mt ($2.0/mt) week on week, at RMB 5,713/mt ($883/mt) ex-warehouse, according to SteelOrbis’ information.
As of September 27, HRC futures at the Shanghai Futures Exchange are standing at RMB 5,592/mt ($902/mt), decreasing by RMB 85/mt ($13.1/mt) or 1.5 percent since September 17.
