Mainstream ex-China steel plate offer prices from mills have been heard at $820-830/mt FOB for February shipment as of today, Monday, December 13, remaining stable compared to December 6. The reference deal prices have been heard at $810-820/mt FOB to South America and Southeast Asia, with trading remaining slack.

During the given week, domestic steel plate prices in China have indicated slight declines amid decreasing ferrous metal futures prices and the prevailing cautious sentiments among market players. Currently, both supply and demand are slack, which will exert a negative impact on steel plate prices. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.

Average Q235 20 mm steel plate spot prices in China have declined RMB 17/mt ($2.7/mt) week on week to RMB 5,093/mt ($799.5/mt) ex-warehouse, according to SteelOrbis’ information.

As of December 13, HRC futures at the Shanghai Futures Exchange are standing at RMB 4,535/mt ($712/mt), decreasing by RMB 11/mt ($20/mt) or 0.24 percent since December 6.
