Mainstream ex-China steel plate offer prices from mills have been heard at $820-850/mt FOB for January shipment as of today, Tuesday, November 23, edging down by $50/mt on average compared to last week.

The reference deal price level has dropped by $45/mt over the past week to $820-830/mt FOB to South America and Southeast Asia. Sellers have been interested in signing deals in the export market, seeing weak demand both locally and abroad. Though most customers are still cautious in such a rapidly falling market, if the market becomes firmer, more deals may be seen in the near term.

During the given week, steel plate prices in the local Chinese market have seen declines amid the cautious sentiments among market players. Meanwhile, demand for steel plate has been sluggish, negatively affecting prices. Average Q235 20 mm steel plate spot prices in China have lost RMB 86/mt ($13.4/mt) week on week to RMB 5,070/mt ($793/mt) ex-warehouse, according to SteelOrbis’ information.
