Demand for Turkish coated steel products have remained slow in the past week. Moreover, local hot dip galvanized (HDG) coil buyers managed to put some pressure on domestic mills in the last days of 2019 and achieved $620-630/mt ex-works in some deals. Sources say these levels are not available anymore with the base prices for HDG having settled at $650-670/mt ex-works for now, $20/mt below most of the official offers last week. Re-rollers admit they had to provide discounts despite feedstock prices being firm.
In the meantime, some rebound might be possible once the EU market reopens, which is expected closer to mid-month. For now, end-user demand for coated steel in rather slow in both the domestic and export markets, SteelOrbis understands.
On the export side, demand remains low because most market participants are still on vacation.
Turkish mills’ price offers for coated products for their domestic and export markets are presented in the following table.
