During the week ending May 13, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have moved down slightly, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, ferrous metal futures prices in China have moved down after the Labor Day holiday due to the US announcing tariff hikes for Chinese commodities, exerting a negative impact on the domestic steel plate market. Inventories of steel plate has been at relatively low levels on the traders’ side as they have been unwilling to build up stocks due to their increased caution as regards the future prospects for the market. The traditional peak season is now over and demand will be slacker in the coming period. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely soften in the week ahead.
