During the week ending April 22, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have edged up slightly, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, steel plate inventories in China have been at relatively low levels, providing support for prices. Meanwhile, steelmakers have received sufficient orders. However, the capacity utilization rates of steel plate producers are at relatively high levels, which will increase the supply to the market and exert a negative impact on steel plate prices. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will fluctuate within a limited range at the current high levels in the coming week.
