During the week ending April 29, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have mostly edged down, though shipbuilding plate prices have moved sideways, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, suppliers in the Chinese domestic steel plate market have expected to see slacker demand in May and so they have lowered their sales prices in order to bring in cash. Considering that steel plate prices have hit their highest levels in the first half of the year, some suppliers think that they will indicate a downward correction in the near future. As the Labor Day holiday (May 1-4) is approaching, demand for steel plate will remain quiet. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
