Brazilian slab exporters are negotiating the product of the basic commercial grades for export in a range of $530/mt to $540/mt, FOB conditions, two different local market sources told SteelOrbis.

The price compares with $530/mt last week, in an uptrend reflecting the shortage of slab for short-term delivery, as slab producers dedicated to the foreign markets have their portfolios of orders sold until March and part of April.

“I would say that the reference price is closer to $540/mt and increasing,” one of the sources said.

In December, ArcelorMittal Tubarao exported slab at $492/mt, Companhia Siderurgica do Pecem at $493/mt and Ternium Brazil at $503/mt, all FOB conditions, with price deals probably closed in October.
