Are US HDG prices about to trend upward?

Last week, US domestic flats producers announced they’d be raising prices on all flat rolled steel products, including US domestic HDG coil, by $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt), effective immediately

Whether the increase will be successful, or whether it prevents prices from slipping further, has yet to be known.  Sources close to SteelOrbis have said they’ll have all eyes on scrap prices during the November buy cycle. In the absence of higher scrap prices, mills’ ability to force last week’s increase into acceptance will be “difficult at best.”

Current US domestic HDG / Galvalume prices are listed in the chart below.

Product $/cwt $/mt $/nt Delivery Weekly change
US domestic HDG base price $31-$32 $683-$405 $620-$640 ex-mill neutral
