Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific) 

Once again the Capesize market stood in a sort of lull without any major movement except for the period activity which registered an increase in rates due to higher FFA market in the mid part of the week. In Pacific, cargoes from West Australia to China were fixed for the whole week in the very high $2/mt while trades out of Newcastle to North China showed rates around low $4/mt. Charterers from Brazil paid mid $5/mt to move cargoes to China while from South Africa, low/mid $4/mt was reported. As said, future market gave a push to rates for period and one year time charter for modern capes was reported at high $5,000/d.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Last week the market still had a positive trend, with levels for vessels loading from ECS Am increasing to $6,750/d plus $175,000 bb, as seen reported for a 76,000 dwt vessel fixing from ECS Am to the Far East. Whilst a Kamsarmax was fixed on subs for $6,850/d plus $185,000 bb, towards the end of the week. From ECS Am, a 77,000 dwt was reported fixed from Praia Mole to the USWC at $9,000/d with Ultrabulk. In the USG, a 75,000 dwt unit was fixed for a trip basis Houston to Skaw-Tarragona at $5,750/d. Meanwhile fronthaul fixtures were mainly seen ballasting towards the USG able to achieve around $7,000/d basis Gibraltar. In the Med, levels were seen close to $9,000/d, with an 82,000 dwt fixed basis Hereke for trip to the Far East via the Black Sea and a 76,000 dtw vessel fixed bss Eregli for a trip to Lisbon with Cargill at $3,500/d. In the Far East levels for NoPac rounds were seen close to $5,250/d on a 80,000 dwt for a trip basis CJK with redelivery Philippines and similar levels were also done on a 73,000 dwt fixed basis delivery Ulsan for a trip via Indonesia to India. For SAF loading, an 82,000 dwt fixed Richards Bay to E. India at $5,750/d plus $175,000 bb with Sivabulk. On the period front, strong activity was seen last week, especially in the Far East, with charterers taking a Kamsarmax at low mid $5,000s/d for 5-8 months and close to $6,000/d for 1 year period.

Handy (Far East/Pacific) 

The ongoing rush on the Indonesia/India coal trade showed further improvement on the Supramax, fixed initially at $5,500/d basis delivery east Kalimantan and ended up with a $6,200/d paid with same delivery to a slightly smaller unit. From the F East Supramaxes were fixing $3,600/$4,300/d for CIS Pacific rounds, a 50,000 size got $5,300/d from central China to MEG and a slightly larger vessel delivering N China fixed $5,350/d with redelivery at WC India. An Ultramax delivering Thailand got $5,500/d via Australia to carry alumina to MEG, while two 57,000 vessels delivering Philippines earned $3,500/d loading nickel ore to China

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean) 

Increased chartering enquiry both on fronthaul and local trades allowed rates increasing. A 57,000 size was taken with delivery Morocco for a trip via Baltic to China at $6,750/d and an Ultramax delivering UKC was paid $7,550/d to perform a trip to F East, followed by another 57,000 size which, with a similar delivery, did a trip via lower Baltic to F East at a higher $8,000/d. Several vessels, delivering at the same area, were fixed into the Mediterranean. On this trade a 50,000 dwt loading at Baltic agreed $3,300/d with delivery at Gibraltar and a 55,000 size delivering Antwerp got $7,000/d. Handysizes loading from N Europe were not left behind, 36,000 size fixed a backhaul to Florida with cement at a firm $5,500/d and a 28,000 dwt got $6,000/d to the E Med. Less available reports for requirements loading from S Europe still showed a 19 years old Handymax delivering at B Sea fixed at $5,500/d for a trip into the Middle East, another one got $4,000/d from same area into the central Med and a very low $1,500/d was agreed on a fancy 58,000 size loading pig iron from B Sea to USG.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America) 

Good activity was seen from Atlantic Americas and a lot of vessels were reported fixed loading from these areas. A Supramax and an Ultramax, both with dely S America and TransAtlantic destinations, were booked respectively at $5,900/d and $6,750/d, while for the same trade Handysizes were getting $6,500/d for E Med and N Europe directions. Fronthaul reported a Handymax done at $5,750/d + $50,000 bonus on a trip to F East, a very large Ultramax fixed $7,000/d to S Africa and a Handysize was taken for 3 to 5 months commitment at $5,000/d bss redely Atlantic. The more demanding market also showed a 53,000 size taken for a 12 months period at $5,100/d with dely Angola with 1st leg via S America and another similar size done at the same rate with dely S Africa for 5 to 7 months duration. A grown demand for loading out of the USG/NCS Am range reported an Ultramax delivered at Mauritania to perform a trip via NCS Am to WCS Am. Basis a similar redely a 37,000 dwt fixed $6,500/d with dely at USG. Woodpellets were loaded on an Ultramax fixed at $6,500/d with dely Mississippi entrance and redely N Europe, while two 56,000 units delivering at same area were done at $9,000/d to WCS Am.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

A barely exciting $8,000/d was agreed on a fancy 58,000 size delivering at S Africa to carry coal to the MEG; a smaller basis delivery at EC India supra fixed a long trip to W Africa, possibly to carry bagged rice at $3,500/d for first 70 days and $4,500/d for the balance. Another Supra delivering at WC India to perform a trip via MEG to China was paid $3,600/d, while a 35,000 dwt delivering R Sea committed for a 3 to 5 months period at $3,000/d for 1st 25 days duration ant $4,250/d for the balance duration.
