Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

The Capesize market kept pushing on all routes, except for the Tubarao-Qingdao that softened a bit during the week: 5TC average gained $3,000/d from Friday to Friday going from $29,600/d to $32,700/d. Tubarao-Qingdao route in fact went down progressively from mid-$21/mt to very high $19/mt until Thursday and then it gained almost $1/mt on Friday closing the week at $20.75/mt for very end July dates. Brazilian RV softened a bit as well closing the week at mid $25,000/d. Saldanha Bay-Qingdao was stable at mid/high $15/mt for the whole week closing on Friday at $15.93/mt. W Australia-Qingdao route was still very strong swinging for all week and closed at $10.73/mt, after gaining $1/mt in a week for second half July dates. Fronthaul was pushing as well going from $49,000/d to $54,000/d, while rates on TransAtlantic were rumoured around mid $30,000/d.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Activity in the Atlantic basin remained strong, with few Baltic RV fixtures reported: a Kamsarmax was rumoured at $15,000/d for a quick Baltic RV. Increasing volumes were recorded in BSea together with a higher demand for tonnage: a Kamsarmax was fixed around $23,000/d basis dely dop Isdemir for a trip via BSea to Spore/Japan range. Remarkable activity also on Fronthaul side: a Post-Panamax was rumoured at $23,000/d basis dely dop Gibraltar for a trip from USEC to India. Higher rates were rumoured also from ECSAm: a Kamsarmax was reported at $16,300/d + 630,000 bb for a trip via ECSAm to F East. The Pacific basin, after the rally of last weeks, seemed to have softened a bit: two Panamax units were fixed at $7,000/d basis dely dop S China for a trip via Indonesia to India and a quick Indonesia Pacific RV was rumoured at $8,200/d. Activity remained pretty steady in USG and also on period few fixtures were reported: activity decreased after the rally of previous weeks. A 74,000 dwt was rumoured at $9,750/d for 4/6 months with redely worldwide.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

The positive trend in F East seemed to have stopped: rates in fact remained more or less stable on Handysize units, while rates on Supramax/Ultramax units decreased of around $500/d. A 56,000 dwt with dely S Korea was fixed at $5,500/d for a trip via CIS to SE Asia and a similar unit with dely Spore was reported to be done at $9,000/d for a trip via ECI to China. All other fixtures reported were with West destination: a Ultramax with dely S China was done at $5,500/d for a trip via Indonesia to WCI, a 58,000 dwt with dely Vietnam was rumoured at $4,250/d for the same direction and a 57,000 dwt with dely mid China was fixed at $3,000/d for a trip to WCI. A 61,000 dwt with dely Thailand was rumoured at $11,000/d for a trip to Bangladesh with clinker and a 32,000 dwt with dely Vietnam took $6,750/d for a trip via SE Asia to Bangladesh.

 

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

Active week both on Handysize and on Supramax units higher rates were rumoured compared to previous week. A nice 33,000 dwt was fixed on voyage basis to Turkey at an equivalent rate of $8,000/d basis dely aps Cont with scrap cargo. On the bigger size, a Ultramax was rumoured around $11,000/d basis dely Cont for one trip with coal to E Med. The trend was substantially positive some fresh cargoes were reported in the market, especially coal and scrap cargoes from Cont to E Med both on Handysize and on Supramax units. An improvement of grain movements pushed rates up in in Med basin however not many fixtures were recorded. Among the most noticeable fixtures of the week, a 63,000 dwt unit was fixed at $16,750 /d basis dely Canakkale to Far East and another 63,000 dwt was rumoured at $19,000/d basis dely Iskenderun for a Fronthaul biz. In the Handysize segment, rates on Fronthaul were in the $11/12,000/d depending on type of cargo For trips back to USG/US EC levels remained around $4/5,000/d as previous week.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

In the Supramax and Ultramax segments the sentiment remained positive driven by demand rates increased $500/1,000/d compared to previous week. On TransAtlantic RV in fact Supramax units were rumoured around $13,000/d and Ultramax around $16,000/d. On Fronthaul, Ultramax units touched a tic above very low $20,000/d, while Supramax were rumoured in the high teens. The Handysize segment was slowly firming up even if rates increased at a slower pace. The increasing activity was seen on 32/35,000 dwt units fixed around $7/8,000/d on TransAtlantic RV while larger 36/39,0000 dwt were in the $10/11,000/d. The market in S America showed some positive signs especially on Handysize units were rumoured higher rates. The bullish trend reported in the segment is expected also for coming weeks. Rates on F East direction did not improve at all, compared to rates in the Atlantic basin. Handysize units were fixed in the $9/9,500/d basis dely aps ECSAm for trips to ContMed and around $13,500/d for trips to F East Rates on Brazilian coastal trips were at $9,000/d even if some units were rumoured around higher numbers. Rates on Supramax units were around $11,500/d for trips to Cont and around $12,000/d for trips to Med Rates on Fronthaul were still around $13,500/d + 350,000 bb. Ultramax units were still fixed around $14,500/d + 450,000 bb for trips to East and around $13,750/d to Skaw/ Passero direction.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

Early in the week a Supramax was rumoured at $18,000/d from WCI to F East and towards mid week a Supramax was fixed at high $14,000/d basis dely dop WCI for a trip via MEG to SE Asia. More period deals came to light. Supramax units were generally fixed around mid $12,000/d basis dely MEG port. From ECI, the market kept slipping through the week early in the week a Ultramax was rumoured around mid $16,000/d from ECI to China and a Supramax was around low $15,000/d. At mid week, a Ultramax was fixed around mid $12,000/d basis dely Spore for a ECI China biz At the end of the week. Supramax units were rumoured at mid $14,000/d and under for ECI China deals. The market in SAfr maintained similar levels compared to previous weeks: Supramax units open in SE Asia were fixed around low $9,000/d from SAfr to China. A 56,000 dwt was rumoured around mid high $11,000/d + 150/170,000 bb for SAfr MEG/WCI biz with coal cargo.
