Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

A very negative week; the 5TC average went down on a daily basis and lost almost $6,000/d in 5 trading days.Tubarao-Qingdao rates lost more than $2.5/mt to very high $18s/mt.West Australia-Qingdao went down as well, but a bit slower losing $2/mt to $8,35/mt. Saldanha Bay-Qingdao followed the same trend with a fixture in the high $13s/mt done at the end of the week.On the Atlantic side, fronthaul lost more than $5,000/d down to low $30,000/d and the same low levels were done for TransAtlantic trips that lost more than $3,000/d in a week.Not much activity on period due to the market trend.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Panamax rates kept increasing in all areas. ECSAm market was the area where rates increased the most with a fixture at $15,000/d + 500,000 bb on a quality Kamsarmax to Spore/Jpn, the highest fixture in the area for more than a month. In North Atlantic the combination of fresh grain cargoes from USG to F East and good Baltic demand for coal cargoes kept rates at reasonable levels and some charterers started to look at units open in N China and Japan to cover USG exports.In F East rates remained fairly unchanged and a 85,000 dwt agreed $14,500/d on an Australia RV .Period activity was almost absent with FFAs that remained at low levels.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

A 58,000 dwt with dely S China was fixed at $10,500/d for a trip with bauxite to N China and another one with dely CJK was fixed at $8,000/d for a trip via Japan to China with metcoke. A smaller Supramax with dely Spore was rumored at $9,200/d for a trip via Indonesia to China and a 52,000 dwt with dely Vietnam was rumored at $8,500/day for a similar trade. A 57,000 dwt with dely Japan was fixed at $4,600/d for a trip to Arabian Gulf and another Supramax dely S China was fixed at $ 6,100/d for the same direction. A Handysize 32,000 dwt with dely Vietnam was rumored to be fixed at $5,750/day for a trip to Spore with aggregates.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

In Cont Handysize and Supramax were stable. Two 63,000 dwt units with dely Cont were fixed at $12,500/d with scrap cargoes to East MED. A modern 32,000 dwt with dely Skaw was fixed at $6,000/d for a trip with fertilizers loading from Baltic to ECSAm (intention Brazil). A 63,000 dwt unit was fixed at $ 10,000/d aps basis for a trip via BSea to USG, while some Supramax rumored at $ 18,000/d for Fronthaul. A 36,000 dwt unit open in Marmara Sea was fixed for 3/5 months at $10,000/d with redely in the Atlantic

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

In USG the Supramax market remained at good level. Supramax rumored at $16,000/d for Atlantic TCT and Ultramax at $19,000/d, Supramax were fixed around $20,000/d to Spore/Japan and Ultramax with the same direction were fixed around high $20,000/s. Handysize rates kept quiet and soft as several ships were on the spot market. 37,000/39,000 dwt units were fixed around $11,000/12,000/d for USG TCT to MEDCont. The ECSAm market showed some increase during the week. The Handysize rates were stable; a 35,000 dwt unit was fixed at $ 11,500/d for trip to Skaw/Passero, for a trip to Far East the rate level was around $ 14,500/d and for coastal trip to Brazil the rate gained about $500 touching $10,500/d. The Tess 58 was fixed at $13,500/d + 350,000 bb for a trip via Brazil or Argentina to far East and the Ultramax improved from $13,500/d+350,000 bb to $14,000/d +$400,000 bb. For a trip to Cont or MED the Supramax passed from $12,500/d to $13,000/d and the Ultramax from $13,000/d to $14,000/d for the TA.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

56/57,000 dwt units rumored to be fixed around $11,000/ low $11,000s aps basis from UAE port for trip to WCI with limestones. A Ultramax 63,000 dwt was fixed around low $12,000s/d – mid $12,000/d aps basis. 56/57,000 dwt Supramax were getting close to $9,000/d dop basis for trip via PG back to WCI and over $10,000/d dop basis for Chittagong direction. From ECI rates were around $9/9,500/d dop basis for 56/57,000 dwt units. Towards end of the week a 58,000 dwt unit was fixed at $9,000/d dop basis from Bangladesh for trip via ECI to China with iron ore. Not much came to light from S Africa for India but for Far East direction 56/57,000 dtw units rumored at $12,000/d + 200,000 bb.
