Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal has stated that it has put into commercial production its "AMKOM" hot dump processing unit for the utilization of industrial wastes, aiming to decrease environmental impact. Investment in the project amounted to around UAH 30 million ($1.3 million).

The capacity of the "AMKOM" slag processing complex is 150,000 mt of slag waste per month. Thanks to the new complex, Zaporizhstal will extract an additional 100,000 mt per year of secondary metal containing raw material for its own production. The slag processing complex will help reduce expenses for purchases of iron ore raw materials, and reduce the prime cost of manufactured products.
