On November 10, the new ultra-thick slab caster of Jiangxi Province-based Chinese steelmaker Xinyu Iron and Steel Co. (Xinyu Steel) produced its first batch of 420 mm x 1,870 mm slab - the first time in the world 420 mm thickness has been produced by a vertical-bending slab caster.
The new slab caster was designed and supplied by the domestic engineering service provider CISDI Engineering Co., under an agreement signed in October 2009. It produces slabs of 300-420 mm thickness and of up to 2,400 mm in width. Since March this year, the caster had already successfully produced slabs in thicknesses of 300 mm, 320 mm and 360 mm.
