WTO reports decline in new antidumping cases
According to the statement released by World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat, 18 WTO members imposed 52 new antidumping measures against imports from 24 countries during the period January 1, 2004-June 30, 2004.
The number of new antidumping measures imposed by the member countries was 114 in the same period of 2003.
The US, EU and
India imposed 6 antidumping measures each during the subject period. This number indicates a significant decline in the measures imposed by
India when compared with the previous year. In the first half of 2003,
India imposed 21 new antidumping measures.
For the first half of 2004, US, EU and
India are followed by
Canada, with 5 antidumping measures, and
Canada is followed by
China,
Peru and
Turkey, with 4 each.
Imports from
China were subject to 16 antidumping measures in the first half of 2004. This number was 18 last year. For the first half of 2004,
China is followed by
Korea,
Malaysia,
Russia and
Thailand, the imports from which were subject to 3 antidumping measures each.
The antidumping measures were mostly imposed on the products in the base metal sector, which includes steel, aluminum and iron. In the first half of 2004, 19 new antidumping measures were imposed on these products. These products are followed by chemical sector products and minerals, with 12 and 5 respectively.
