In his welcome address on October 10 at the 50th annual meeting of worldsteel (World Steel Assocation) held in Dubai, Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, CEO of Emirates Steel, stated that the level of development in the UAE was achieved in such a short time due to the tradition of openness established by the founding fathers of the UAE. He said there are currently 9.2 million people including expatriates living in the UAE, at a time when other people around the world are talking about building walls. He also stated that a major plus point in its favor is the stability of the country. Construction has accounted for 90 percent of steel consumption in the UAE in the past decade, while he said that in future the UAE industry will focus on meeting the evolving demand for different steel specifications.
